Summary
In conjunction with a rangeRoamer SIM card (included), you can access email and Internet while traveling. With the built in camera, you can email your photos to your friends, or, just make normal phone calls.
Importantly, this phone also contains WiFi. This means you can use free Internet Wifi in your hotel, coffee shops, airports, etc. Why does this matter? While rangeRoamer DOES provide data service over cellular, you would be billed for that and you'd be "using your airtime." So, the free WiFi option is a nice perk.

Ratings
The touch screen interface takes a few minute to get used to, but then presents a faster overall navigation around all the features than phones lacking a touch-screen. We remove 1 star for a slow-down in text entry compared to a phone with dedicated keyboard.
Quad-Band for world coverage except Japan and South Korea.
This is HTC's value oriented touch screen phone, and a better deal than the $600 to $800 alternative offerings in HTC's product line up.
Nice and small, fits well in the hand and pocket. Includes screen protector sticker. Feels like it can take the falls, but the front screen is all LCD so a sharp key in the wrong place might do some damage!
